It’s World Environment Day and I wanted to share some things I’ve incorporated into my life to
Eliminate Single-Use Plastic
like straws, take-out utensils, and just UNNECESSARY PLASTIC
Something you should know before we get started,
you don’t need to BUY things… you need to CHANGE your habits to reduce waste.
to live more with less
Straws Glass || Straws Stainless Steel || Organic Canvas Grocery Tote || Pocket Spork || Glass Containers || Vacuum-Sealed Bottle
If you can skip a straw, do it!
Glass Straws
But, I’m human. Sometimes you just NEED a straw.
Like for smoothies, milkshakes, things that might stain your teeth
I love the look of glass and it’s fun to see things come up the straw.
Stainless Steel Straws
Another option if you’re accident prone!
I get it! Broken glass is scary.
These can go with you anytime, anywhere.
Organic Canvas Grocery Tote
I recommend these because they’re organic cotton. However, you can use ANY tote! I prefer that you use something you already own.
I think the ‘reusable’ totes made out of plastic are a joke.
It only takes 14 plastic bags for the equivalent of the gas required to drive one mile.
If you consistently use your reusable fabric totes, you can do a lot of good.
The average American family takes home almost 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year.

Pocket Spork
I know, I know… The term SPORK has a negative connotation school lunchrooms
But hear me out.
Campers, Climbers and anyone outdoors has had this in their pack for years. Why? It’s light, reusable, compact, and useful.
I like to keep one in my bag for take-out situations
But, like I said…
You can also keep silverware (you already own) in your lunch, car, or purse as an option to plastic.
Glass Containers
Another one that I feel like gets a bad rap. This isn’t a Tupperware pitch or meal prep, it’s about sustainability and functionality.
I love these glass containers because you not only save leftovers, but can also easily reheat them in the oven or microwave… plus dishwasher-safe.
win. win. win.
Some people complain that they’re too heavy to carry to work. I say SUCK IT UP.
The benefits outweigh the drawbacks. OKURRRR
Vacuum- Sealed Bottle
I’ve had this one item the longest.
It keeps cold drinks COLD and hot drinks HOT.
I travel with it
Just refill it after Airport Security.
Bag Clips
I forgot to include these in the graphic… oops.
But these have been really useful in place of RUBBER BANDS
How do you avoid single-use plastic?

Vacuum sealed bottle! I go around with my reused Voss bottle but I think I might invest in a vacuum sealed for hot chocolates and cold smoothies!

Love the re-used Voss bottle idea too! 3 R’s in action (Reduce, Reuse, Recylce)

All great tips! I think your message is great and we should all be more conscious about the
environment

I love this! I’m really trying to cut down on my plastic usage and have started with straws and reusable tote bags. The one thing that’s still getting me though is the tupperware. I walk to work and with lunch being my biggest meal of the day, all my glass containers get heavy in backpack – but I do love my Pyrex so maybe I just need to look at it like a workout! 🙂

Such great tips and reminders! I need to add some of these to what I’m already doing! Thanks!

Great blog post! I love stainless steel reusable straws. I was just talking to some of my friends yesterday about this idea. Thanks for all the other recommendations! I will definitely need to try some of these! -Sara https://mindovermango.com/
