We’re talking about APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SHOTS, people !

I’ve been really into kombucha lately and it’s transitioned into taking a quick shot in the morning.

I’m going to give you the run down of Apple Cider Vinegar and a quick recipe for how I drink mine.

You should never drink straight vinegar- overtime it can damage your esophagus & tooth enamel

If you’re worried about your teeth, swish with water after or try drinking through a reusable straw. BUT NEVER PLASTIC STRAWS

I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t take a chance to incorporate some French/English etymology. Vinegar actually means “sour wine”, similar to the process in which it is made.

 

Latin: vinum (wine)

Old French: vyn egre  —-  Middle English: vinegar

Latin: acer (sour)

Benefits

–It’s rich in vitamins E, A, and P, magnesium, iron, calcium, probiotic, enzymes, raw and more.

–Supports weight loss, studies have shown that vinegar may help keep you from feeling hungry by slowing stomach emptying. It lowers the glycemic index of high-carb foods like bagels, meaning it can help you feel fuller longer by slowing the release of glucose into your bloodstream.

–The pectin in apple cider vinegar has been known to improve digestion. Think about when you eat a big green salad causing a high fiber intake, a vinaigrette can help your body break it all down.

–Trying to nix caffeine? ACV is energizing. Try swapping your morning coffee with a vinegar shooter.

–ACV boosts immunity. The acidity gives it antiseptic properties which is great for people like me who are always on the verge of getting sick. This is wonderful to cleanse your throat, the way some people drink lemon and honey. It’s also probiotic which supports a healthy immune system.

 

Wait weight loss?  ACV blocks some starch digestion while you eat. Since less starch (and fewer calories) is being digested by the body, the spike in blood sugar is lessened. Adding to this benefit is that good bacteria in your gut feed on this undigested starch, which can lead to less bloating and an overall healthier digestive system.

What do I need?  

I’m drinking Solana Gold Organic Apple Cider Vinegar or Bragg’s Organic Unfiltered & Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. I love this one because it’s cheap, raw, unfiltered and has the veil of the mother. I have the 32 oz one and it’s 5% acidity- it’s always a good idea to check the label.

Wait, Game of Thrones? Veil of the Mother? I know right? So that is the name of the veil floating in the vinegar which is unique to ACV. As the raw apple juice turns to hard cider and to vinegar, protein enzymes link together to form a molecular chain. These are the beneficial, dormant living-enzyme proteins.

How To Do It: 

Carol S. Johnston, PhD, recommends drinking an ACV drink once or twice a day and always right before you eat; to reap the benefits, the ACV needs to be in your stomach before any food. If you drink ACV without food, there won’t be anything for the bacteria to work off of, which probably defeats the whole purpose of drinking vinegar in the first place. Also, it’s recommended not to exceed 3 tablespoons of vinegar a day.

Mocktail Drinking Vinegar

So, you can take a shot 1-2 times a day before eating. These ratios will give you a great drink that won’t harm your teeth enamel or esophagus.

ACV SHOT RECIPE:

1-2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar (I use 5% acidity)

1 tsp Raw Organic Honey or Agave

8oz Water *NEVER hot water. The heat will deactivate the enzymes*

 

Stir together until honey is dissolved + Enjoy!

 

ACV MOCKTAIL RECIPE:

3 tbsp / 1 shot        Apple Cider Vinegar (I use 5% acidity)

1/4 tbsp                  Raw Organic Honey or Agave or Simple Syrup

2 cups/ 1 pint         Perrier or Sparkling Water

Add your own twist!

-Add fruit juice

-Infuse with mint, basil, fresh fruit or other add ons

Voila! I love using vinegar for other things as well. Apparently ACV zaps warts. I’ve used it as a homemade fly trap lolz. White vinegar is great for cleaning, especially glass and chrome.
